  8. 1 teaspoon goda masala
  9. 2 Tablespoons kokum extract
  10. 2 tablespoons Jaggery
  11. 2 tablespoons oil
  12. 1 tsp cumin and mustard seeds
  13. As Per Required Water
  14. 1 teaspoon desi ghee

Steps to make to make Baingan dal (dal vanga)

  1. Chop brinjals and onion, chilies. Fenugreek seeds and goda masala are the key ingredients of this recipe.
  2. Along with dal, you can cook fenugreek seeds. But I cooked plain dal.
  3. Heat deep pan, add oil. once hot add mustard, cumin seeds, add fenugreek seeds. allow it to splutter then add garlic, green chilies.mix well.
  4. Add chopped onion, saute then add brinjals. Cook for 5 minutes. Now add cooked dal. Add red chilli powder, goda masala, jagtat, salt.mix well.
  5. Add water as per the consistency you want. I have added 1 and 1/2 cups of water. Now add kokum extract. Give a nice boil. Serve hot with chapati and hot rice.
  6. This dal is also known as panchras dal as it has sour, spicy, salty, sweet, bitter tastes. Which is very healthy. Don't forget to add desi ghee. Yum yum
